Obtaining a credential
Choosing a credential, checking you qualify, and booking.
Which credential should I start with?
Start with the one that matches your experience. The ATP is for early-career practitioners with 0–2 years in the field. The CTP is for tech leads, engineering managers and senior IT project managers with about 3–7 years. They are peers: neither is a prerequisite for the other.
Check your eligibility and routeWhat are the eligibility requirements?
ATP: a secondary degree or equivalent, and 23 contact hours of technical education. CTP: a bachelor’s degree and 36 months of technical leadership, or 60 months without a degree. Requirements for the other eight credentials are on the exam facts page.
Exam facts and eligibilityDo I need work experience for the ATP?
No. The ATP has no minimum years on the job. You need the secondary degree or equivalent and the 23 contact hours of technical education.
How are the 23 contact hours of technical education evidenced?
Any course, bootcamp, university module or employer training counts. Send a certificate or transcript that shows the provider, the topic and the hours. Training with an Authorized Training Partner is not required.
ATP handbook (PDF)What counts as technical leadership for the CTP?
Technical leadership means leading technical work: making design decisions, reviewing others’ work, or being accountable for delivering a team’s work. List each role with its dates and a referee who can confirm it. One application in ten is audited at random.
How do I book an exam?
Choose your credential on the site and pay online. You receive a registration ID. Booking is open for the ATP and CTP.
See the credentialsWhat does it cost?
The founding exam fee is ₹2,499 for the ATP (first 50 seats) and ₹5,499 for the CTP. Later prices are on each credential page. Training fees set by training providers are not included.
Can I get a refund?
Reschedule-only. Examination voucher fees are non-refundable once registered. However, candidates can reschedule their exam sitting free of charge up to 24 hours prior to their scheduled exam window.
Do I get a digital badge, and is it free?
Yes. Each credential has a badge, and the badge files are free for anyone to download. Showing a badge in public as your own credential is for holders of that credential only, because the badge is an IICTP trademark. Your certificate is sent to you by email when you pass.
About digital badgesDo I have to be a member?
No. Exam fees are listed for members and for non-members, and membership is not a requirement to sit an exam.
The exam
What the exam is, how it is scored, and what happens afterwards.
What is the exam like?
It is timed, closed book and remotely proctored online. The ATP has 100 multiple-choice questions in 120 minutes. The CTP has 150 scenario-based questions in 180 minutes. Every credential’s format is on the exam facts page.
Exam factsWhat does the exam cover?
Every exam draws on the five domains of the TPBOK: Architecture & Systems Design; Engineering Governance & Agile Delivery; Applied AI & Emerging Tech Integration; Infrastructure & Security; and People Leadership in Engineering. The share of questions per domain is published for each credential.
Read the TPBOK guideWhat is the pass mark?
Tiered standard: 65% for foundational (ATP), 70% for CTP and specialty credentials, 75% for executive leadership (PgTP, PfTP). Evaluated via psychometrically calibrated scaled scoring with no negative marking.
What happens if I do not pass?
1 re-examination attempt included with your founding examination registration. Candidates who do not pass on their first sitting may schedule their retry after a recommended 14-day study period without paying a re-examination fee.
Can I reschedule?
Yes. Reschedule-only. Examination voucher fees are non-refundable once registered. However, candidates can reschedule their exam sitting free of charge up to 24 hours prior to their scheduled exam window. After you book, pick any online exam slot within 12 months. Slots run seven days a week.
When do I get my results?
You see a provisional pass or fail on screen when you finish. Your official result, with a rating for each domain, is emailed within 5 working days.
What if I think my result is wrong?
Appeal within 30 days of your result or decision, by writing to appeals@iictp.org with your candidate reference. Someone not involved in the original decision reviews it and replies within 30 days. If you disagree with that reply, a panel of the Board of Global Standards gives a final decision.
What are the exam rules?
The exam is closed book and remotely proctored. Before you start, you show a government-issued photo ID. Your webcam and screen are recorded; the recording is checked by software, and anything it flags is reviewed by a person. No notes, second screen, phone or AI tools are allowed. To report suspected misconduct, see the impartiality and conduct page.
Impartiality and conductMaintaining your credential
Keeping it current, renewing, and how others can check it.
How long does a credential last?
Three years. To renew you earn Technical Development Units (TDUs), log them, and submit the log for audit. The ATP needs 30 TDUs, the CTP, PgTP and PfTP need 60, most specialist credentials need 45, and the CSTP needs 30.
How renewal worksWhat counts as a TDU?
Two kinds of activity count. Education: systems architecture, technical delivery, emerging technology including AI and cloud, and general engineering. Giving back: open-source contributions, mentoring junior engineers, writing technical whitepapers, and speaking at an IICTP chapter.
What does renewal cost?
Every three years: $99 / ₹5,500 for members and $179 / ₹9,900 for others, as shown on the ATP, CTP and specialist credential pages.
How do I log my TDUs?
One TDU is one hour of learning or giving back. Send your log to registry@iictp.org with each activity, its date and its hours, and keep your evidence for 18 months after the cycle ends. One log in ten is audited at random; if yours is picked, you have 30 days to send the evidence.
Renewal pageWhat happens if I renew late?
You have a 90-day grace period after your cycle ends, during which the registry shows your credential as Suspended. After that the credential lapses, and you re-sit the exam to hold it again.
How does an employer check my credential?
Anyone can look up a credential ID in the public registry on the verify page. The records shown today are sample records until the first credentials are issued.
